What are the best models to live show: OFs or CMs?
Depends on the show. Most shows I have been to have separate divisions for OF and CM. But if all are together then it really depends on the individual horse.

How would you describe the Pee Wee Bit?
The Pee Wee Bit is a Loose Ring Snaffle with a Mullen Mouth. The Mullen Mouth places even pressure on the horse’s bars. It is a very mild mouth piece. The Pee Wee Bit is made from quality stainless steel which gives the bit a clean neat look, with a sweet iron mouth piece. The sweet iron is intended to rust which gives it a sweet taste promoting saliva, hence the term sweet iron. The Bit is light and comfortable which is important allowing the horse to relax.I use the same tack on all the horses I train.

Can I take extra tack and how much?
Light tack is carried without charge (small tack trunk – 12″ X 20″ X 24″ maximum allowable without charge). Extra hay and complete tack storages are too space consuming and will result in extra charges or fee. (When booking exclusive trips, allowable tack sizes may not apply) **Please check when booking your horse if you have a large amount of tack**Individual colleges host each event and provide the horses, which are paired with riders of the appropriate level by random drawing at the start of each show. Personal tack and schooling warm-ups are not permitted. Judging is based strictly on the rider’s ability to demonstrate a pleasing and effective hunter seat equitation position on an unfamiliar horse. (Horsemanship and reining divisions are offered by the IHSA, but Dickinson currently offers only hunter seat.On the care for horses page, you can give your horse health items, feed, you can water, groom, muck the stalls, and train your horse.

What services do you offer to boarders?
Board includes stall cleaning, feeding, daily inspection and picking feet as well as turning the horse out daily or lunging in poor weather. The student is responsible for the care of her tack and is expected to groom her horse. Additional services are available  la carte. Updated fees are listed in the current catalog. Veterinarians are on call as needed. Farriers come two times per week. The equine chiropractor visits frequently, and the equine dentist visits biannually.I don’t have a lot of experience buying tack, but I bought an outstanding lower level dressage set from Jessica Friedman.

Should I bring my tack?
Most lameness and performance problems can be evaluated without a rider. However, if the problem is subtle and particularly if the problem is more noticeable when the horse is ridden, observation under saddle may help us diagnose the problem more quickly and accurately. In these cases we would encourage you to bring your tack and a rider.During the day of a Pony Club rally, each team is required to set up a complete and organized tack room and stable (usually using an empty horse trailer) containing all the necessary gear. Saddle racks, bridle racks, first aid, equipment, tack, etc. is all set up in the stable. Everything must be labeled and in proper cleanliness, repair, and condition.

How do I find a horse or pony?
Unless you are a professional, you should enlist the help of a trusted horse professional. This should be someone either personally known to you, such as your instructor, or someone with an upstanding reputation and verifiable references. Your child’s instructor will be the best judge of the suitability of a mount, and should work together with you and whomever you enlist to help you search for the horse. Even knowledgeable and experienced people work with a professional to find the right horse.Pee Wee Stevenson from Lindrith, New Mexico is the inventor of the Pee Wee Bit, hence the name Pee Wee Bit.

What is the optimum thickness for a mouth piece?
The horse’s mouth is filled almost completely by his tongue. Most horses prefer an average diameter mouthpiece, which provides slightly more space in an already cramped mouth. Additionally, thicker mouthpieces do not give a great deal of extra bearing surface, and so generally don’t help as much as many riders believe. Mouth pieces that are extremely thin, those that are only 1/8-1/4″ in thickness, are not mild. These can be damaging to a horse’s mouth. To protect our therapy horses, TRS has a policy that limits the weight carried in a treatment session to 20% of the horse’s weight (This includes the tack, as well as the rider’s weight). With our current therapy horse selection, this TOTAL weight should equal no greater than 200 pounds. To cancel an order simply notify our team at  If your order has already been dispatched your credit card will be credited upon the return of the bit, less $9 US or equivalent for postage to you.
