The Shack By William Young

Friday, July 9th, 2010

Ok, so I must admit that until I was talking with my church small group, I had never heard of William Young’s The Shack.

Someone briefly mentioned it in a conversation, and next thing I knew, the whole group was buzzing about it. Needless to say, I felt left out because I didn’t even know this book existed.

When they found out, a friend loaned me their copy of the book, and all I can say is WOW. The Shack was by far one of the most compelling stories I have ever read in my life.

Here is a brief synopsis of this amazing story.

Father Mackenzie Phillips takes his family on a vacation. During this time, his daughter Missy is abducted. Later, Mack comes across evidence that she may have been brutally murdered in a shack that is deep within the woods of Oregon.

For the terribly shaken Mack, family issues being to pile up and his life seems to start crumbling.

Almost four years after her disappearance, Mack receives a mysterious note, seemingly from God, that invites him back to the suspected place of his daughter’s murder. At first, Mack isn’t convinced that he should go, yet eventually changes his mind and decides to go.

Unbeknownst to Mack at the time, what he will discover at that shack will change his life forever.

If you’re anything like Mack and have ever asked “why me?” during a stressful time in your life, then the answers in this book will give you something to reflect upon.

After finally reading The Shack, I can see why it is so popular.

It is a brilliant combination of drama, suspense, and moving spirituality that will strike you to your very core.

If you are looking for a great book to read that may also impact your life, The Shack is the book for you.

The Shack by William Young is a fantastic novel that I couldn’t put down. I know it has its critics, but I believe that they are not seeing this book for what it truly is: a stirring piece of spiritual fiction. If you’ve read The Shack, please let me know what you thought!
